EFFECT OF SUMMER ON SPREAD OF CORONAVIRUS

It has been noted by research that areas in cooler climates have exhibited a high spread of coronavirus that warmer areas. Determination of whether an increase in humidity and temperature in the summer season to come could curb coronavirus spread is, therefore, a necessary step.

An analysis of the rate at which coronavirus spreads in various parts of the world that experience different climatic conditions give us solid information on which we can base to answer the question of whether summer could end coronavirus.

EFFECT OF HUMIDITY

Relative humidity can be defined as the amount of moisture in the air expressed as a percentage of the amount needed for saturation at the same temperature. The microscopic view of the virus exhaled by an infected person shows that a sphere of moisture that is microscopic surrounds the virus, this is called droplet.

During the winter season, a time when we experience low humidity, evaporation of moisture happens meaning coronavirus can stay in the air for considerably a longer period of time since the force of gravity will not pull it down to the ground.

In summertime on contrary, when a person infected with the coronavirus breathes out particles containing the virus, droplets in the surrounding do not evaporate much easily which implies that its weight will be great and so gravity force will pull it easily out of air. In other words, this reduces the amount of time for the virus to stay in the air and so reduced the chance of passing to another person.

EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE

It has been evident that most of the coronavirus cases in particular 90% of the infe3ctions occurred in areas experiencing temperatures between 37.4F and 62.6F or 3  and  17 degrees Celsius and with absolute humidity between 4 to 9 grams per cubic meters.

On the other hand in areas experiencing temperatures that are greater than 18c ( 64.4F) and absolute humidity of more than 9g/m3  have accounted for 6% of the total global infection cases.

COMPARISON BETWEEN CORONAVIRUS AND FLU

Coronavirus and flu are all viral respiratory diseases. Their mode of spread is similar and the symptoms that victims of both diseases exhibit are similar. However, the rates of spread and mortality for coronavirus have confirmed to be much higher than those of flu. Therefore it should be noted that coronavirus is a new disease that a lot has to be researched about it to make conclusive summaries about it.

CASES

The cases of coronavirus around the globe give a glimpse of how seasons affect the spread of the virus. It has been noted that the northern hemisphere which experiences lower temperatures and low humidity has been worst hit by the coronavirus.  The region running through China, South Korea Japan, and northern America has experienced a severe outbreak of coronavirus.

On the other hand, the regions in the southern hemisphere have had fewer cases of spread of the coronavirus. Countries such as Australia and New Zealand have had much fewer cases of spread of the coronavirus.

Conclusion

However much the coronavirus outbreak might be slowed down by the onset of the summer season, this cannot be an assurance of the clearance of the virus that has been a serious pandemic. Other significant factors play in this pandemic. For example, regions lying across the equator do not experience great changes in temperature resulting from the change in season.

So then such areas might continue to experience almost the same rate of spread of coronavirus cases even if summer sets in. we have also had people getting the common cold, a disease of a similar kind to coronavirus in the summer seasons, therefore, it tells us that in summer still, we might experience coronavirus spread.

Therefore the practice of better ways of stay e.g. social distancing and good hygienic standards like the use of face masks plus other recommended ways would be very key to curb on the spread of coronavirus even if summer sets in.
